The idea for this design came when my new next door neighbour was renovating his house and garden; fortunately the new neighbour was a good friend of mine and he informed me that he was putting a big deck at the bottom of the garden. Being a designer and a keen hobbyist, woodworker I asked him for any off cuts.
So I got designing and building a new garden table. I didn't have enough wood to complete the design so I focussed on the main aspect, the base. The design process took me through many ideas for a new table but thought the simplest would be the best.
The design features 5 boxes measuring 550mm square in a staggered formation. After assembling and moving the table into place, I discovered that if I turned it on its side a new perspective and a new design emerged. This inspires me to recreate it in SolidWorks but with improvements.
